Punk Rockers- Met Ball 2013 Best Dressed

Each year film, music and fashions biggest names come out to celebrate the Met Ball held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Trying  not only outdo each other but outdo themselves from previous years, stars plan their outfits months in advance. This years theme was chaos to couture ‘punk’, whilst some like Nicole Richie and Kelly Osbourne rejoiced at having a theme that was going to be so tricky for so many to master yet easy for them, others completely bypassed the theme and went for full on glamour. Blake Lively, Rita Ora and Amber Heard disappointed me with their dull run of the mill red carpet garb. Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Madonna horrified in bizarre concotions. It looked as though Queen Bey has gone back to her mummy/stylist Tina Knowles by the looks of her garish ensemble, and Kim Kardashian’s Givenchy, whilst beautiful in print just looked plain wrong on her burgeoning bump. However I don’t want to waste time criticising, here are my top three looks of the night.

1st place, Rooney Mara– I love everything about Rooney’s look. Head to toe Givenchy, the ethereal white lace is off set by the sharp and powerful shoulder detailing, finished off with the perfect black lip- ideal nod to the theme.

2nd place, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley- Rosie played it safer than I would have liked for a Brit, but her Gucci dress was gothic enough. Moss green and black with beautiful feather detailing and a strong makeup look- bronzed and smokey green eyes with a raspberry lip. Beautiful jewels and gothic nails complete her look. No gimmicks, just gothic enough with the right amount of glamour.

3rd place, Kate Bosworth: In Balmain and Louboutin’s Kate Bosworth’s look was punk glamour through and through. Again, no gimmicks like others who shall remain nameless (cough cough Sienna Miller, cough Anne Hathaway), a smoked out black and gold eye, simple hair, she let the dress speak for itself.

**new addition**4th place, Alexa Chung: I had to add in a fourth place as this look was too good not to include. Alexa nailed the years theme in this beautiful Erdem concoction. Simple make up and hair let the dress stand out. The perfect paired down punk princess and totally true to her natural style. Go Alexa!

**new addition** 5th place, Karolina Kurkova: Dressed in Mary Katrantzou, Karolina’s slicked back hair, smokey eye, black nails, clashing print dress and hardcore shoes scream chaos to couture. She looked completely at ease and perfectly poised. My vote for best hair and makeup of the night!

My overall thoughts on last night was that too many just couldn’t get to grips with the theme. The women looked awkward and a little try-hard, these three ladies oozed natural style and charisma without drowning themselves in punk regalia. I woke up at 6:30am this morning to scour through the images and was left disappointed in most, let’s hope that next year’s theme is a little less divisive!

Have a lovely Tuesday,

Please feel free to leave a comment to let me know who you thought were last night’s best dressed.
