Kim; the make-under

I was thinking of Kim Kardashian yesterday afternoon, and I got to thinking about her recent ‘cool’ image overhaul. Yes, Kanye has obviously helped with her wardrobe (goodbye bodycon minis and Louboutins and hello oversized Celine coats, chic pencil skirts and knee high boots) her new iced caramel latte shade of blonde has also helped, but what has really (for me at least) altered her image from reality tv super glam superstar to ‘besties with Carine Roitfeld, head to toe Givenchy, potential Vogue cover star’ is her makeup. Or rather lack thereof. In 2008 she was all raven coloured wavy hair extensions and super duper smokey eyes- watch this video if you need reminding. Now, however, she is lived in bronze/taupe coloured shadow and simple lashes, offset with a perfect complexion and a nude lip. Of course the one thing that hasn’t changed is the kontouring. Now that her hair is lighter she needs the warm bronzey cheekbones more than ever, but they somehow look (shoot me for typing this work because I hate it) ‘classier’ (ughghghgh I did it). I love Kim’s new makeup look, it’s a lot less fiddly to recreate than her old one, and is more a nod to her Parisienne influencers, after all Parisienne girls are the queens of the no makeup makeup look.

To recreate simply invest in a few shadow sticks, I love the Kiko ones, or the Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Sticks. To give eyes the definition of eyeliner, but without looking like you’re wearing any, simply (and this bit is a tad fiddly) draw some on to the inner part of your upper lash line in a dark purple or brown. It will open up the eyes without being at all detectable. Next up get a q tip and smudge the same colour eyeshadow underneath your lower lash line then add lashings of mascara and a hint of bronzer and a natural nude lip and you’ve perfected the art of Kim 2.0.
