Island Essentials

Optimized-islandessentials

I am writing today’s post from a far away island where I’m currently on honeymoon. Everything has been idyllic and the one small glitch that threatened to be a slight annoyance, hasn’t even upset me in the slightest. My bag didn’t make our connecting flight and so I’m forced to spend 48 hours suitcase-less. No mascara, no eyeliner, no bikinis, no cover ups, no flip flops, no giant makeup bag, no Serozinc. However, as we took an overnight flight, I was wiley enough to pack some skincare and other essentials. And you know what? I’m surviving just fine!

The Skincare: I have my Environ cleansing oil and gel, Origins Drink Up Overnight Mask and the Clarins Blue Orchid face oil. The oil is simply dreamy (expect a rave coming up soon) and as I’m moisturising so well in the evenings I’m finding that forgoing moisturiser in the AM is actually fine!

The Makeup: As my makeup bag is still not here, which means no SPF – shock horror. Luckily I packed my BareMinerals Serum Foundation SPF 20+++ in my carry on, and it’s so light and gentle that it’s working great as a daily SPF alternative. For my body I bought an SPF 50 from the one and only shop on the island. It leaves a white cast and feels like tar to rub in, but hey ho at least we’re protected from the rays! I also packed a few lipsticks, but to be honest I’ve just been slathering on Nuxe Reve De Miel lip balm all day and night to keep lips in tip top condition. For a brightening under eye effect (just in case we do happen to see any other people) I have my NARS radiant creamy concealer in Custard.

And that’s it! Luckily I also picked up a bikini from the boutique here and the hotel kindly gave me a toothbrush, razor and deodorant so I’m not totally slumming it, but I’m loving surviving on just the bare minimum. And who knew that mascara isn’t a desert island must have after all?

Oh girl!!! Glad that you’re so relaxed and happy that this doesn’t even matter :). And that you’re having a great time!! I never wear makeup on the beach anyway. As long as I have my lip balm and sunscreen (haha about the clay though!) I’m happy! And glad you could find the essential bikini, that could have been a bummer.
