Guys it’s awards season! Do you know what this means!? It means that all of the years best films are coming out NOW. Which means cosy afternoons spent with popcorn and truly amazing cinema as opposed to that Marvel crap (sorry to my husband but I am pretty sure he is not reading). I always love Awards season, I love the quality of film that comes out and I love watching the red carpet looks. Last April when my siblings and I went to LA for the GLAAD awards and stayed at The Beverly Hilton we were so excited to discover that the hotel also plays host to The Golden Globes.
Anyway, yesterday we went to see La La Land and it was truly one of the most poignant and mesmerising films I’ve ever seen. I’m a full blown musical theatre fan though so all I had to see were the words “Ryan Gosling” and “musical” together for me to know that I was going to fall hook line and sinker for the movie. However, it was the films depth and ability to take you on an emotional journey with subtlety and grandeur in equal measure that really took hold of me and held me captivated for the full two hours and eight minutes. It was the dancing that harked back to a forgotten era, the use of primary colours, the Hollywood glamour coupled with the crushing lows of the industry that rendered the heart. Anyway, now I’m done trying to be a pseudo film critic let’s get down to my outfit.
I’ve attempted to give up skinny jeans as part of my 2017 resolutions in favour of “real” denim, but a trip to the cinema called for my go-to comfy skinnies from Subdued paired with this belt from Urban Outfitters (I’m the only fashion blogger who doesn’t have nor want a Gucci one), for warmth I wore this breton striped heat tech thermal top by Uni Qlo with this gorgeous wool coat by & Other Stories and to add colour I used my suede Zadig & Voltaire bag and pulled the look together with my Isabel Marant booties which will forever be a staple in my wardrobe no matter what boot trend is in right now.
Which films are you guys looking forward to seeing? I’ve also been massively into TV (who am I kidding I’m massively into TV even in the middle of July) and just finished The OA – obsessed!

I want to see La La Land soon, it looked so cliche in the trailers, but I’ve been seeing such great feedback from my friends that I thought I’d give it a chance! I recently saw Moonlight and Hidden Figures last weekend and both are such poignant films that deal with racism, sexism, homophobia and just a lot of great topics that are important to be discussing especially now with our current political climate. Fences is next on my list after La La Land, I read and analyzed the play for a theater class last year so it’ll be interesting to see how the big screen adaption is, Viola Davis can really do no wrong!
Yes I’ve heard wonderful things about Moonlight – have added your other suggestions to my list too!
