Left to Right of Swatches- Laqa&Co Ring of Fire, Lipstick Queen Medieval, MAC Relentlessly Red, Daniel Sandler Marilyn, MAC Full of Flare.
Let’s face it- a good nude lipstick is never out of style or season, but there’s something about Autumn/Winter which just cries out for a little bit more drama from the makeup department- a bit more drama in the form of a red, bold and sexy lip. Gone are the days when a red lip was only relegated to ‘night out slap’, these days you can rock a red tint or stain during the day with just a flick of liquid liner and some subtle mascara. That’s why I always like having a few red options to suit my mood.
MAC Full of Flare Pro Longwear Lipstain Marker (and breathe) gives the most gorgeous stain on lips that need something a little extra without looking OTT for the office and without drying your lips out. The colour lasts for hours, including coffee and croissant eating sessions, leaving lips look vibrant and sexy in an understated way all day.
Best with: a neutral eye with a little liner and some nice mascara and a flushed cheek.
*Daniel Sandler Luxury Matte Lipstick Marilyn
This is the ultimate red lip for girls with olive or darker complexions as it has undertones of orange. It makes lips look fuller and can be worn alone for a gorgeous matte finish or under a gloss for a full on Jessica Rabbit style pout.
Best with: lashings of liquid liner, a nude eyeshadow base, a defined brow and lots of lashes. This is the perfect night out lipstick.
*MAC matte lipstick in Relentless Red
This shade verges on more of a pinky cherry tone so has a little bit of a twist. I don’t know why but this reminds me of something that Miranda Kerr would wear whilst cruising around New York with her Givenchy tote and Isabel Marant high tops.
Best with: either a completely plain eye (maybe just a curled lash) for the day or with a smokey brown eye for the evening.
Lipstick Queen Medieval:
I’ve written a full review of this here so will save you the backstory but needless to say this works day/night/whenever and leaves lips beyond nourished (thanks vitamin E!). I love love love this lipstick, it looks dark in the bullet but applies a sheer cranberry colour which looks as though you’ve just bitten your lips. This is a must have for anyone of any skin tone or age- trust me.
Best with: everything!
*Laqa & Co Lil’ Lip Ring of Fire:
This glossy lip crayon literally does not budge once it has been applied, I love that it is a little different by having a gloss and that the shade is somewhere between a haribo cherry sweet and a glass of red wine. The packaging is also super cute.
Best with: Illuminated skin and cheekbones to give an all over glossy dewy effect and a paired down eye.
