There’s something about an orange lip that seems to magically make skin appear more olive and golden, eyes brighter and teeth whiter. It’s very Cuban, and I’m all about Cuba at the moment. It’s tropical chic and it works wonders on dull tired complexions. However, I’m not ready to go all out with an orange matte bold shade, instead I’m sticking to sheer and glossy formulas that work like vitamin D for your lips and just make everything sunnier.
My two favourites are actually both quite similar except that one is luxury and one is drugstore, one has more of a red tone and one is more peachy. Let’s start off with the luxury – Burberry Lip Balm Glow Orange Poppy feels like silk as it’s applied and leaves lips looking impossibly juicy. Two to three coats leave an almost opaque finish and the shade isn’t too in your face. It works best with a light base (I love Smashbox CC Cream) and a simple eye – a light shadow, a hint of liner and some mascara – simple. I love that it instantly perks up my complexion especially when I’m not feeling too fresh.
Revlon Lip Butter Tutti Frutti has been in my collection for a year and a half, and it has a very similar effect to its Burberry counterpart, except that it’s a fraction of the price. However it’s much more peachy and orange so it requires a tad more dedication, you have to ensure that nails don’t clash – reds and dark pinks work best with an orange lip, and you also have to ensure that your clothing doesn’t clash either. As it’s more of a commitment I like to use this on the beach with a bright bikini, it looks amazing. Similarly it leaves lips nourished and hydrated which is always a win on holiday as the sun always has a habit of drying my lips right out.
I love it when I find a lip colour asides from nude that works for me, and both of these options will be coming on holiday with me in two weeks time!
I haven’t tried orange lipstick before, I’m actually kind of nervous to! But you have some great picks-the Burberry one seems like a dream!
