As I’m sure you’re all aware (I’ve been banging on about it for long enough), I’m in New York this weekend for a few days away with my sister. The flight isn’t the craziest of long haulers out there, but it’s still a bit of a mission (7hours+). As we are on late night and even over night flights there and back I was in desperate need of a little skincare SOS to keep things nice and hydrated. I’m not one of these people who’s going to start doing a million and one steps whilst cramped into a teeny little economy seat jostling for space, so I just wanted to stick the absolute essentials – a 2 step beauty routine.
Step 1 – Remove foundation and concealer this first step is vital as you don’t want any foundation sitting in your pores and clogging them whilst the recycled aeroplane air dehydrates your complexion. You need to get it off. However, to still stay feeling nice-ish I like to keep my eye makeup and eyebrows in tact so I don’t feel totally exposed. I decanted some Bioderma in a Boots travel bottle which I used with some cotton discs to remove my foundation. I’ll be using my Forever 21 hair band to make sure my hair is totally off my face so I can get right up into my hair line and remove every last trace.
Step 2 – Hydrate Next step is keep your skin totally hydrated and nourished, for this I used Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask (as mentioned here) to really keep skin protected which I’ve decanted into a travel pot. I love a thick layer of this at the best of times, but on drying flights I like to put an even thicker layer on to really seal in the moisture and hydration. I love that it has hyaluronic acid in too as that is the ultimate hydration ingredient so you know you’re in safe hands. The best part is, is that the mask is totally clear so you don’t freak out your fellow passengers! At this point I’d also add a thick layer of lip balm as my lips get horribly dry and sore on aeroplanes, nothing beats Nuxe Reve De Miel for a lovely moisturising treat for your pout. As my eyes are quite dehydrated at the moment, I’ll also be popping some of Environ’s quenching eye gel on to really help my under eye area staying totally 100% hydrated – what’s best is that this is the first eye cream that hasn’t given me milia, hurrah! The Molton Brown Pink Pepperpod hand cream will come in handy (har har) for keeping hands in lovely condition mid flight.
That’s pretty much it! As we’re landing so late, I see no need to reapply any makeup so I’ll just keep the face mask on until we get to our hotel. However, if you’re landing at a more reasonable hour you can remove with a face wipe (Simple ones are brilliant) or the same Bioderma cleansing water and then apply some fresh foundation and concealer. And then ta da, beautiful skin!
P.S I’ll be keeping saints on hand to keep everythang fresh as I really can’t imagine anything grosser than brushing my teeth in an aeroplane bathroom *shudders*.
Great tips you have here! You are right, I can’t imagine brushing teeth in the bathroom either D: Wearing makeup on the plane is just as bad as well D: Can’t imagine doing that!
