Daniel Sandler at the Simon Seminar

On Saturday morning I was lucky enough to go along to the first of what will hopefully be many Simon Seminars at the London College of Fashion. The Simon Seminars were started by Simon Vallance in order to bring various fashion and beauty industry experts to the general public- sort of like a YouTube tutorial but first hand where you get to see the action live, meet the experts and ask them questions as they demonstrate their talent.

The first seminar was with celebrity makeup artist Daniel Sandler who has been in the business for over 20 years and who has had his own line of makeup for over 10. Daniel is a bit of a beauty blogger favourite, as I’m sure if you read other blogs, you’ll have noticed just about everyone rave about the high quality and innovation of his products. He is perhaps most famous for his watercolour blush which is absolutely gorgeous and stays on your face for hours. I have the shade Charm and absolutely adore it. Daniel had three models on Saturday ranging from their 50s to 20s and showed us three easy day-night looks using minimal products and effort.

A little peak into Daniel’s kit

On his first model- Gina, a lady in her late 40s, he created a wonderful daytime smokey eye just by using one pencil! No need for fussy confusing pallettes and faffing with a million different brushes here. Daniel also created gorgeous hot pink lips and a coloured smoky eye on Ros (the youngest model) and a gorgeous coral-y glossy peach on Isabella which looked youthful, fresh yet still interesting.

The event was peppered with questions from the audience which gave it a cosy chatty vibe, and gave us nuggets of insight such as not to overdo those brows as apparently it can give the illusion of smaller eyes! Daniel also suggests doing any contouring or blusher before eye makeup as it gives your face definition, so you can put less on your eyes. He also demonstrated how to contour Kardashian style by using a scarily dark looking foundation stick around the temples, cheekbones and top of the forehead which he then blended into the most fabulous chiseled and angular looking face- amazing!

Not only did we get to see Daniel at work and learn some of his expert tips, but we were also treated to goodie bags which included one of Daniel’s peach eyeshadow which I wore in Monday’s post with a brush and a grey (gorgeous- as Daniel himself calls Bond St grey like an Hermes Kelly bag) eyeliner and some Urban Retreat goodies worth £25. Such a treat.

Goodie bag!

A wonderful experience, and I hear mumblings that a blogger event could be up next for the Simon Semianrs? I’ve already bagsied by seat front row.
