An Ode to the Cool Cocktail Dress

(I’ve put a totally unedited/unfiltered photo first so you guys can see the makeup properly!)

Something rather annoying has happened recently (only annoying in the sense of the dreaded import duty) – I’ve become besotted with US based e-commerce retailers. First came Nasty Gal (love affair started approx 3 years ago) and then Shopbop and now there’s Reformation and For Love and Lemons. There’s just something so unique, so effortlessly cool yet sexy about all of them. Let’s talk about this For Love and Lemons dress that my mum ordered for me for Christmas that I wore out last night. The essence of it is an overtly sexy dress, however (to me at least) it is the pinnacle of cool, it doesn’t look tacky, it just looks and feels like a mish mash of something that Serena from Gossip Girl would wear – but wouldn’t look totally out of place as an extra in a Girls episode (albeit paired with flat ankle boots instead of heels).

It’s this high-low grunge/glamour look that I’m obsessing over, and it’s exactly why brands like For Love and Lemons and Reformation get my heart rate thumping (I may have sent numerous Reformation links to my mum as birthday hints – so hopefully I can film a birthday try on haul for you guys) .

For the makeup lovers – I did my makeup using the Lorac palette, Eyelure lashes (avoid at all costs- they are pretty yes, but they are really stubborn and can really irritate the eye area), GALS foundation (standard), Kevyn Aucoin highlighter, CT Filmstar Bronze & Glow and my latest discovery – No 7 matte lip crayon in Raspberry Wine – new HG lip colour, but I have a full post in the works on that one winging its way to you next week. My clutch is Ellie Saab (stolen from my mum) and my heels are 7 year old Topshop.
