Why I Rarely Wear Lipstick

About 9 months ago now, just after I got married, I became immersed into the world of lip liner. It started, naturally, with the Kylie Jenner obsession and then metastasized into something totally different – where I once used liner to give me a fuller pout by outlining my lips, I now overdraw my lips by a teeny fraction, but instead I’ve found a lip product like no other. Instead I use liner all over my lip and now rarely use lipstick/gloss or any other lip product at all. Why? Well for one the precision you get from liner is incomparable to any other lip product, you can draw the perfect shape of your lips and then fill them in and it will stay putย all day, even if the central colour fades, the main shape and outline of your lips will hardly fade at all making touch ups easy.

Secondly they don’t dry out in the middle of the lip, that’s my pet beauty hate, when the colour collects in the centre of the mouth causing two weird lines and you have to scrape the lipstick off all together and start a fresh, with liner it fades but doesn’t collect in the lines, making me feel comfortable enough to go two hours or longer without so much as thinking about a touch up, for long evenings out, big lunches, parties and so on I’ll maybe only dab on a lipstick colour on top of my liner to add more depth to the colour, but if I want my lips to stay looking amazing then it is best to forgo lipstick completely.

When I don’t feel like wearing any makeup (which to be honest is most days) if I have my liner I feel together, I can toss on some concealer, a bit of eyebrow product and then draw my lips on and fill them in making me feel polished. I opt for a colour deeper than my lips to make me feel like a pre-raphaelite (a look that I’ve been channeling since I was about 11 when I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere ย near eye makeup but could borrow my mum’s lipsticks), it’s a look that is so classic to me – bare eyes, perfect skin and a defined rosebud pout. My current colours that I can’t be without are all MAC; Chicory (a warm burnished terracotta), Spice and Boldly Bare (a pinker nude that works best with a little eyeliner added) – if I have those three in my handbag, I’m good to go.

The key is to keep your lips in good condition so the liner formula doesn’t dry them out, I do this nightly by coating my pout in a thick layer of Nuxe Reve De Miel and come morning they are good to go.

Would you ever envision your beauty bumf sans lipstick?

I definitely agree lip liner only is an ideal option for longevity, I just dunno if I could ever forego my love affair with lipstick. There’s something about applying lipstick that makes me sooo happy. Definitely my favorite makeup product. I DO need to get MAC’s soar though, big time.

I also rarely wear lipsticks these days! Lip liners really are more effective, and when I do wear lipstick I can’t wear it without lipliner. x
