What makes you beautiful

Yes I just quoted a One Direction song….I’m sorry, not really though! I was thinking yesterday about the thrill I get from using a new beauty product, and the reason why I love the beauty world so much. A new lipstick or foundation can really change your mood – as superficial as it sounds, I’m sure a lot of you will agree with me, that beauty products can improve confidence instantly.

But what about the products that truly work, what are the fail safes that you turn to when you know you just have to look good, but without any of the faff or hassle? I have a few fail safes, but if I had to narrow down my whole makeup routine to just two  three products I would pick concealer, mascara and something for my lips every time. These three combined, instantly make me feel a little more ready for the world. My current favourite is Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection which I use all over my face – under my eyes, on past acne scars, on new blemishes, literally everywhere. It’s cheap, it’s effective, light weight enough to use under my eyes and thick enough to cover up my horrid old spot scars. That’s base essentially sorted for me – I actually quite like seeing my real skin shine through a bit as well.

Secondly, mascara, I’m not loyal to any particular brand, in fact the only mascara that’s ever really wowed me was the Chanel Inimitable Intense which I bought in Moscow Airport when I was 17, tried it on in the loo and then took all my friends back to the counter straight away (it was a school trip you see!). I even bought tubes for my mum and grandma to use! But I found it a little too expensive to continually repurchase, so I only buy it now when I feel like really treating myself. If anyone out there has a good drugstore mascara, please holler!? Maybelline Falsies is obviously brilliant.

Thirdly, a lip. This, believe it or not is actually the most crucial for me out of the three. If my lips are defined, I instantly feel made up and ready. When I’m going for such a bare faced no real makeup look, I like to go for something a little deeper and pigmented. Hourglass Opaque Liquid Lipstick in Rose instantly defines, and makes my lips look fuller. This makeup look, is one that I can wear to the gym, to the supermarket, on an early morning coffee run, or even out for the day if I’m feeling particularly footloose and fancy free.

What are your fail safe “beautiful” beauty products?

I love the look of that hourglass colour. I always feel my best when me skin looks good, so a good tinted moisturiser like the Laura Mercier one, that and an under-eye concealer! x
