As most of the country heads back to school today and an increasing amount of adults now feel like September is more significant and feels more like a fresh start than January I thought it only appropriate that I pen down some thoughts and goals for the coming “year”.
There have been a few things that have been niggling at me over the past few months, and this month will be the time that I finally address most of them. When it comes to blogging and this sphere in general it can feel incredibly confusing, it is a market that is so overly saturated that you can begin to feel irrelevant pretty quickly. The key here for me is to continue creating the type of content that I myself would want to read, but also pivot and branch out into new areas. My goal for this year is to never have “free” time, that’s time either spent going to an event that I know is with a brand that probably isn’t really my thing or simply a meeting which may feel like work but ultimately I know wont amount to much. I’m now going to ensure that my days are only filled with productive outings, and if there aren’t any then I’ll be working on new content and strategy.
Secondly, I plan to constantly compare myself to other girls. That may seem like a negative message but ultimately I think comparison is one of the best forms of motivation. One of the most used sayings in the blogging/influencer world is that “there is no formula to growth or success”, that just simply isn’t true. There are a multitude of formulas and every girl (and boy) has their own one unique to them and their readership. All successful businesses have plans and strategies and that’s precisely what I intend to do more of, being fatalistic and saying “if you grow you grow” is nonsensical to me. Instead, focus on a strategy that works for you and put in the time and effort to succeed in your goals. One of my favourite’s is “content is king”, this has never been more true – I find my blog post and videos tend to draw further traffic to my social media platforms and thus helps my growth. This is why I’m pleased to say that I’ll be posting on here on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sunday and doing two videos a week, I already have a vlog lined up for later in the week and an “Everyday Get Ready With Me”.
These photos were taken yesterday in one of my current favourite outfits, Urban Outfitters jeans, Calvin Klein vest, Celine bag and last year Zara heels. The star of the show though is my new Loavies Biker Jacket – isn’t it gorgeous? I love the studded detailing.
What are your September goals?

Yay, excited for all of this Tijan! I like that you have a point of view and that you share it with us in your posts and videos. It makes for better and interesting content I think. That’s why I love to check your blog regularly. I also agree with you regarding the “no formula to gross”. I think when you read a lot of blogs and watch various videos of successful bloggers/vloggers you do see a pattern emerging :blog design, types of pictures used and most of all the product presented (you can actually follow brands’ ad campaign launches through that ;)) . Ultimately it’s the voice of the blogger that matters and the trust you have in that person that makes you a loyal reader. Anyway, have a good night Tijan! XX
Thank you for such a lovely comment Gaya – sorry I’m late to replying!
I like your blog for its depth which very few girls (or boys) on social media can deliver. That’s what keeps me coming back. I’d probably love your Snapchat but I’m avoiding downloading it for my productivity’s sake, so YT will suffice for me.
Haha Tracy thank you, I’m with you on the Snapchat thing – productivity goes out the window!
Love how real you are in all your posts. I agree with so much of this especially the whole “non comparison” thing, that is how you know what direction to go in next and what you are competing with! Blogging is a business, so it would be silly to say there is no comparison and no competing in business.
