Since the age of around 16 or 17 I’ve been a hardcore Victoria’s Secret Show fan. I put the date of when it will be airing in my diary way in advance, and I usually try and avoid any coverage of it before it’s officially aired so that I can be fully surprised. I have my favourite (Lily natch – and yes I do refer to them by first names only) and I’ve just always really loved the whole ethos behind VS. It’s just a whole load of fun, the girls look amazing and they always look so healthy, glamorous and other-worldly. I prefer to look at them as inspiration, and I would never hold myself in comparison, so don’t see why people get themselves so flustered in debating whether they are a healthy body image to aspire to or not. I’m happy in my skin, and love that the girls look happy in theirs. Ok so ramble over let’s get onto the good stuff!
The theme for the shows (yes they hold two shows, one for press at 4pm and one at 6:30pm for celebrities etc, I was lucky enough to be at the first show so was one of the first people in the world to upload videos of it as it was happening – crazy!) and the after party was the Angel Ball, the dress code was black tie and you were requested to wear either black or white. I opted for black as white is just too Summery for me at this time of year, and my favourite white dress is my wedding dress and can’t wear that (sobs). I ordered this dress from Missguided (along with 4 others) for consideration, and immediately knew the bandeau was the most VS friendly, I love the deep V cut out and the fact that the lace was longer than the underslip. I paired it with this leather biker jacket from one of the first limited edition H&M collections back in 2009, it cost me around £120 back then as it’s real leather and the detailing is amazing, but it’s lasted me so well. I love how cropped it is, and the studs add such a fun bit of edge. I wore the comfiest heels I own – Louboutins and my faithful YSL belle du jour clutch.
For makeup I opted for my current favourite base combo – Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk (shade 6.5) and NARS sheer glow (stromboli) and my usual NARS Radiant creamy concealer plus Kevyn Aucoin Candlelight . For eyes I used two palettes, the new Givenchy palette in confidence which was subtly smokey and then I used the Charlotte Tilbury in Dolce Vita to add a little more drama. For lips I overlined as per usual using MAC Soar and then filled them in with Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk and then added a dab of highlighter from the Filmstar Bronze and Glow on to the centre of my mouth to make them look even fuller.
The show was absolutely mind blowing, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande were electric and Ed Sheeran and Hozier were also amazing. The atmosphere was electric and the girls were full of energy, their bodies looked insane. They were all tonged, tanned and glossed to the max and I left with a spring in my step and Taylor Swift stuck in my head!
Now, time to work out how I’ll get a ticket to next years show…
