Eyebrows- they play both a starring and supporting role in your makeup routine it’s sometimes easy to underestimate their importance. They sit prettily above a spectacularly precise smokily made up eye and they sit just below a painstakingly tousled blow dry and yet they have the power to make or break either. Eyebrows have been having a bit of a ‘moment’ for the last few years, they’ve gone from non-existant over plucked to over-done (err permanent makeup- tattooed on eyebrows, really TOWIE??) and are currently going through a ‘bushy and au naturale’ phase a la Cara Delevingne.
I started my eyebrow routine at aged 15, I used to go to the Benefit on Westbourne Grove and get them waxed by a lovely girl called Sophie, I went there for a good few years before moving on to threading- and I’ve never looked back. I’ve dabbled with a few threading bars but the one that has never left me with any irritation/half an eyebrow missing (that has actually happened) has to be Blink in Harvey Nichols. They just always seem to get the right blend of gentleness and effectiveness leaving you with stunningly arched Kim Kardashian-esq brows (yes readers my personal eyebrow idol is not Delevingne or Kate Middleton…but the bootylicious Kimberly). I used to get them tinted as well, but spending the extra £10 a pop to get a little colour which washes off nearly immediately just didn’t really seem to be worth it. So I dabbled with a few pencils and finally settled on Benefit’s eyebrow duo of powder and wax (the powder is actually a gorgeous brown which I use to contour my eyes) that was until I met Hourglass’ Arch Brow Sculpting pencil. It’s a wax and powder formula in one- result!
Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil- £26
I have the shade- Soft Brunette
The girls in my local Space NK showed me how to apply- first you brush your brows downwards using the handy little brush on the opposite end, to see where the gaps that need filling are, then you apply small strokes starting from the top of the brow and moving downwards, then you brush them up again to blend it all in and voila magically arched, beautifully coloured not in the least bit scouse brows. They come in only three shades- Blonde, Soft Brunette and Dark Brunette. The Soft Brunette works really well on both me and my mum- a natural blonde, so although the number of shades may seem limited, they are incredibly diverse.
End Result- naturally arched 🙂
At £26 a pop it isn’t a cheap fix, but it does ensure that you’ll always have perfect brows in between threading and it’s so easy and quick to apply I even put it on in a moving car yesterday!
