Give me moisture

moisturisermykonosAfter all the sun in London last week and then flying out here to Mykonos Greece, I’ve not had a day with anything less than SPF50 on my face for quite a while. All of the SPF and makeup and early morning flight (6:15am on Tuesday- ouch) made my skin an absolute disaster, worse than it’s been in months. I initially took the ‘less is more approach’ and just slathered myself in Effaclar Duo morning and night with nothing on top, almost like a treatment, and whilst it helped a little my skin was still very oily.

It was then that I realized I was committing the ultimate skincare geek sin- of course troublesome oily skin needs more moisture not less, it’s over compensating a lack of moisture by producing more oil so you’ve got to rebalance the problem. I started by using Jurlique Herbal Recovery Night Cream all over in the evenings and Embryolisse Emulsion Hydra-Matte in the mornings under my SPF and in the evenings after my post-beach shower and before my night time makeup. And the results were dramatic, my skin instantly slotted back into kilter and the excessive oiliness calmed. A moisturising mask is also a brilliant way of sorting out troublesome skin, I’m particularly loving the Jurlique Rose Intense Moisture Mask as well to truly calm and hydrate. Another excellent way to hydrate the skin is with an oil, oil plus oil actually equals less oil believe it or not, but I’m saving this topic for an upcoming post.

I’m planning on giving my skin a day without make up hopefully on Wednesday to really catch up on blog work and let my skin breathe whilst also putting my favourite Dr. Organic Manuka Honey face mask (manuka honey is excellent for blemish prone skin).
