Cheryl’s Makeup

When I had a whatsapp from Amelia last week telling me to follow Cheryl Fernandez Versini’s makeup aritst (karindarnell) on instagram I was on it quicker than a ravenous mosquito to juicy flesh (gross reference – I apologise). But to put it bluntly – I love Cheryl. I’ve loved her since the ‘Can’t Speak French’ video came out, when I stopped pretending I was too cool for Girls Aloud and became a full on fan, I loved her even more after watching this and then even more so when she first became an X Factor judge later that year. I’ve perfected my geordie accent (I’ll do it in a video soon for proof) and now I’ve finally had a glimpse into what slap goes on that beautiful face thanks to Karin.

One of the products that Karin tagged that she uses on Cheryl has already been a favourite of mine for coming up to three years – Creme De La Mer Radiant Concealer. This stuff is not cheap by any means, but if you can afford to, I would highly recommend you pick it up. The consistency is unlike any other concealer – feather light but kick ass coverage. It doesn’t seep into dry patches or fine lines, and it acts as an illuminator without being too shiny. It covers dark circles, puffiness and redness in a flash and looks amazing on camera, it has SPF 25 which means that the delicate under eye area is protected which I love as in my opinion, not enough concealers have SPF in these days. Overall, this stuff just rocks, and for £48 one little compact lasted me over 2 years with every day application – a little goes a long way.

The second product is one that I went out and bought, it’s the Dior Brun Samarcande lipstick – a brown toned nude that looks amazing at this time of year. Cheryl wore this on the X Factor last weekend (on both Saturday and Sunday’s shows) and seeing as we both have an olive undertone to our skin I thought it may just work on me. I swatched it and bought it approx. 5 seconds later. It glides on like a satiny balm – hydrating the lips as well as imparting the most gorgeous sheer/matte lipstick. I say sheer/matte, as it has a slight shimmer to it (don’t let that scare you, it’s almost undetectable and just adds a juicy plumpness to your pout) but it stays put and dries almost matte which is where the lasting power comes in. I love that it has a slight gold undertone, without being “gold”. It works with a no makeup look or with a full on look a la Chez. It’s without a doubt my new go-to Autumnal nude lip shade to boot.

As these products are slightly pricy, Cheryl of course also wears some L’Oreal (seeing as she is a spokeswoman for the brand), and her MUA Karin claims that she wears the L’oreal True Match foundation in the shade 5. I’ve tried to the L’oreal True Match and have it, but the shade just doesn’t quite work for me, and the finish is a little too drying on my skin. This makes me wonder whether Karin actually in facts mixes it with another foundation? However, it’s closest comparison would be the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk (which I love) and it is a damn good foundation for the drugstore.

Are you tempted to be a sheep like me and copy Cheryl’s makeup look?
