The word “basic” has become synonymous as an insult as of late (thanks to MIC/TOWIE et al), but I still think basics (in wardrobe terms) are some of the most handy items you can have. Take these pair of (basic) H&M jeans, I’ve worn them all Summer long for horse riding – they cost me £14.99, the denim is thick and protects me on the horse yet the fit has stretch and actually flatters my curves. Whilst getting dressed the other day I thought about wearing them IRL aka outside of a stable, so paired them with my ASOS lattice body, Public Desire heels & Celine tote. They made my (otherwise) quite dressed up ensemble casual and injected some weekend vibes. They’re super comfortable and ideal for this time of year, so if you’re a millennial and the word “basic” fills you with dread, I urge you to have a peruse of the H&M basic section and I dare you not to find a few key wardrobe items that will make you feel like the ultimate minimalist scandi princess who can jump off a horse add a pair of heels and head straight to brunch.
