For me, playing around with face makeup is only truly fun when my skin is behaving, and as •touch wood• it’s been behaving since around November (thank you baby!!) I’ve really been enjoying playing with different bases to subtly enhance, add a glow, whilst also covering my acne scarring/pigmentation. I’m really happy with all the products I’m using at the moment and genuinely feel that they subtly enhance the skin without looking like obvious makeup.
Firstly, I’ve banged on about this for the past two months straight but for good reason, the Erborian BB cream is unlike anything I’ve ever tried. It subtly reduces redness and blurs imperfections and on the weekend I wear it alone with a few dots of concealer but day to day I use it almost as a primer. It also reduces oiliness and gives a velvet finish, if it’s good enough for Rosie Huntington Whiteley…
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
From the very sheer to the very…well not. Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation needs no introduction but up until last month I’d never tried it. I use the shade pebble and apply a pea sized amount on top my BB cream on areas where I need more coverage – for me this is mainly on the sides of my cheeks, jaw and neck. My neck actually suffers quite badly from pigmentation so this evens things out beautifully. I rarely put any on my forehead or nose but if I have any excess on my fingers I’ll dab a little in those areas to even things out. It seems to stretch and work with the skin instead of being like a rigid layer of foundation, it also stays in place all day and is ideal for the few heat waves we’ve had here in London. I will never be without it in my makeup bag again!
Now, on to concealers – I bang on about this all the time but it’s truly one of the best concealers around. Now, note that if you have no need to conceal your skin other than under your eyes this wont be for you. It’s too drying for the under eye area, but on areas of pigmentation/scarring or full blown spots it mattifies without caking and covers seamlessly and does not budge. The Dream.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Flawless Wear Concealer
Another concealer that I opt for when I’m in more of a rush or need just a bit of extra coverage is the Estee Lauder double wear liquid – glide it on and blend with fingers for a gorgeous finish. The BB cream and this give such a beautiful natural every day makeup finish.
Giorgio Armani Neo Nude Fusion Powder
New to my stash is the Armani Neo Nude powder foundation, not your typical powder foundation, this can be used as a final step to add glowy coverage on top of a liquid foundation, for touch ups when your face starts to melt at around 4/5pm, a shade or two darker as a beautiful bronzer or as a light layer of coverage on its own over moisturiser. I’m going to try wearing this over my BB cream for my off duty days. I use two shades 6.5 as my base shade and 8 for a serious bronzed up effect. Love.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, this was my wedding foundation and deserved a notable mention in today’s post as this is also rumoured to be Meghan Markle’s chosen foundation for her big day this weekend! The finish is beautiful, it adds glow without looking greasy, coverage without covering the skin completely – allowing freckles like Meghan’s to shine through and it is SPF free so ideal for flash photography. It’s also non comedogenic (as are all the products mentioned) so won’t clog your skin!

These sound amazing, you have definitely convinced me to try the BB cream and Nars concealer… pretty much everything haha! I wish I had more of a budget for high end products, I recently discovered Too Faced Born this Way range and am totally in love but I can never afford it, so I use it super sparingly with the rest of my makeup and found this works really well 😀 your blog and photos are gorgeous!
