Beat of My Own Drum

My favourite part about style and fashion is that you can reinvent yourself daily. You can be the girl who wears jeans and a jumper to a fancy dinner to play the “cool girl”, you can be the girl who wears faux fur and heels to brunch and be the “sassy girl” and sometimes you can just be a mix of everything thrown into it all at once.

If you feel comfortable and confident in an outfit then very little else matters. I can think of four people who I know in real life who’s style always inspires me. Two are obviously my mum and sister. My mum (who’s actually just started her own YouTube channel – check it out here) can always look like the most dressed up woman in the room but it never looks contrived or over done. She can pull off pretty much anything and look incredible, and I aspire to her confidence when wearing more dressy outfits. My sister (Instagram here) can wear the same outfit for a week on end and still make it look fresh and cool. Similarly two other girls I know have classic and timeless styles, they would never pull up a Daily Mail Showbiz photo of a Kardashian and emulate, they march to the beat of their own drum and mix boho patterns with black classics, expensive bags and tailoring with Portobello buys. They always look like they’ve tried a bit to look nice, but not like it caused any taxing effort.

I feel like I can always tell when I’ve spent a long time agonising over what to wear vs when an outfit works super quickly. I always look more at ease in the outfit that I’ve just thrown on. Yesterday I felt the urge to wear dungarees so threw on this off the shoulder top from Urban Outfitters (that I also constantly wore in LA) and these 70’s style flairs from Zara. I accessorised with my CHANEL boy and long flicky hair courtesy of my L’oreal steam pod (full blog post on the way!) and felt dressed up enough for a Sunday lunch at The Arts Club but also dressed down enough to feel like myself.

Who are some of your style inspirations?

Love the site layout! And absolutely adore this look, the top makes it so cute and summery. I think I might have to recreate this look myself!

Thank you! It’s such a great top and fairly inexpensive too!
